Where we work

Scaffolding in Maryport.

Seafront exposure.

Scaffold to a gable end with the company banner tied on, boarded lift and orange netting above a fenced yard.

Maryport is a planned Georgian port, laid out by the Senhouses in the 1740s, with a Roman fort on the headland above it that got there considerably earlier. The grid of streets around Fleming Square is handsome, and the seafront rows behind the harbour take an absolute battering.

That exposure drives most of the work here. Render fails, pointing goes, and roofs on the front lose slates every winter. When the wind comes off the sea with nothing between here and Scotland to slow it down, something usually gives.

So the scaffolds we build in Maryport are tied more heavily than a sheltered inland job would need, and we do not sheet anything on the seafront without working out the loading first.

What we deal with in Maryport.

  • Full-exposure seafront terraces where wind loading drives the design
  • Georgian grid stock around Fleming Square and the harbour
  • Regular storm damage — slipped slates, failed render, chimney work
  • Salt-laden air and constant damp on anything facing the water
  • Emergency make-safe work through winter
